MIKA WOLL | FOUNDER & GENERAL MANAGER

Born and raised in Germany, Mika received his architectural training in his maternal home country, Finland. His work experience was gathered in Finland, Sweden and Switzerland before setting up his base in China.

This international background has made him a life-long learner of different world-views and cultures, while his design approach is firmly based in the famed Finnish tradition of rational solutions and human- centric concepts, shaping his understanding of scale, context and materials.

The core concept of Finnish design, honesty, is underlying all his work, expressed in the treatment of materials and in thoughtful detailing.

he firmly believes that only a design rooted in physical, historical, social and cultural context elevates a building from mere construction to architecture, while the ultimate proof of any concept is its physical manifestation in form of a realized project. Therefore attention to detail and an understanding of the realities of construction are equally crucial for a designer as theoretical capability.

Having trained as a carpenter in Germany before studying architecture at Helsinki University of Technology (now Aalto University) and the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm gives him a firm understanding of construction and a strong ability in architectural detailing.

As an early adaptor of the BIM approach, he’s a strong supporter of collaborations, and holds the conviction that small, skilled teams using proper tools are the most efficient and future-proof way of working.

DIPL.- ING. (AR) TIM BAUER | OFFICE MANAGER

Tim studied Architecture at Nuernberg’s OHM University of Applied Sciences (former Georg-Simon-Ohm University) in Germany. Working in Architecture, Landscaping and Exhibition Design, he gained rich experience in controlling the aesthetics of light and space on the one hand and fast-paced problem solving on the other. Holding a diploma degree in Architectural Engineering, Tim’s design approach is rooted in respecting the realities of accreditation and implementation.

In 2009 Tim shifted his focus from traditionally engineering focused Germany to the more vibrant and daring market of China. Here, he quickly adopted high-tech design tools and green technology strategies to complete numerous high-end projects. By joining m5architects he is adding a rich skill set based on extensive experience in Europe and China to the company roster.
