WILD KITE TAPHOUSE BEIJING CBD

When we designed the new Wild Kite, we started by looking at craft beer bars, brewpubs and taprooms in Beijing, China and internationally.The most striking thing was that almost all of them follow the same aesthetic: no matter where they are, they try to look like a refurbished warehouse in Brooklyn.

Of course this is where the craft beer scene started and some elements of this make sense. Materials that are rugged and durable. A space that is approachable and not too polished. A vibe that is not be too ‘fine-dining’; it’s a beer bar after all. But there is less justification for always making it look (almost) the same - especially when the space is in a shopping mall in downtown Beijing, not in an old warehouse in Williamsburg.

Our material choices look different but follow this logic. The design does not want to copy the aesthetic but to adopt the craft beer spirit to China and to CBD.
